I like challenges. Last spring, I decided that it'd be fun to sleep outside all summer. So, for the next two months (starting on June 7), I slept on a tree platform in my yard under a tarp, in tents on vacations, and once in a hotel parking lot. By August, I realized that my challenge had been met too easily. That's when my true goal was born.
Now, my goal is to spend a year's worth of consecutive nights outside. In December I built a quinzhee (type of snow shelter), which is where I'm sleeping currently. With the coldest months of the year ahead of me, I'll have some checks, but I have no doubt I can overcome them and reach my goal.
I am a Assistant Cubmaster with Pack 8 down in Macon, GA. I think what you are is awesome! I also applaud you for considering to start this blog and possibly use it to help others. We have Pack Meetings once a month and if we can figure out a way to set it up would you be willing to Skype or FaceTime with us in order to show our Cub Scouts and soon to be Boy Scout what is possible and the types of things they can learn to accomplish through Scouting.
ReplyDeleteYes, that would be fun. Unfortunately, I can't claim to be an expert on snow shelters. Mine is honestly pretty shabby compared to some I've seen. Let me know when would be a good time and I'll see if I can get something to work.

ReplyDeleteHey :) I am a scout troop leader from Lebanon, and allow me to say that what you are doing is pretty impressive, challenging and fun! It takes a special guy to actually do it! I'm also impressed by your parents' approval on this, say hi to them hehehe!
ReplyDeleteWould you consider making a video about what you have learned, or about sharing any valuable stuff with the world scouts?
And feel free to ask for any scout scarf or badge or something like that from Lebanon!
Regards!
I've considered making a short video, yes. If I do make one, it'll be later this spring, or even into summer, although we could get some footage while the snow's still on the ground. Thank you for the compliments! Yeah, I'd love a patch or a scarf! Say hi to your troop for me!
DeleteAwesome. I am an Eagle Scout and Cub Master from CT and what you are doing is humbling and a wonderful example of character and perseverance. Way to Go!
